HARARE-A local woman who recently married a Kenyan national claims she is being harassed by her former boyfriend, whom she alleges has vowed to make her life miserable.
Tariro Mukuze says her life has not been the same since marrying Joshua Moseti Nyamweya, citing persistent threats from her ex-partner, whom she claims works in a government intelligence department.
“I once dated a man who worked for the CIO, but I ended the relationship and later married my Kenyan husband,” she said.
“My former boyfriend was very abusive, and it appears he is not letting me enjoy my new life. We had to flee from Zimbabwe to Kenya because of the incessant threats.”
Mukuze recounted a disturbing incident that occurred during a honeymoon outing at a resort just outside Harare.
“We wedded on 7 September and decided to spent a night at a resort near the city. We had our dinner and had some drinks till late in the evening , when we returned to our room a, we were shocked to find the door ajar despite having locked it. The hotel staff said no one had entered the room and were equally surprised,” she said.
She added that nothing had been stolen, but a handwritten note bearing her name and her husband’s name had been left inside the room.
“We were too frightened to remain there and requested another room closer to reception, fearing the intruder might return.”
Mukuze alleges that after the incident her new boyfriend took her to Kenya the next day .
“On several occasions, my ex-boyfriend would unexpectedly show up while I was shopping or out with my husband and the latest incident got my new husband much fear. That is why we decided to relocate to Kenya for our safety,” she said.
However, she claims the intimidation has persisted even after their move.
“I thought I would be safe here, but he continues to call me, sometimes commenting on places I have visited. The stalking is overwhelming. I do not know how he is managing it, but we are now considering relocating again to countries where citizens’ protection is prioritized,” said a visibly distressed Mukuze.
Her account has stirred memories of past cases involving individuals linked to the intelligence community, including that of former CIO typist Rashiwe Guzha, who disappeared in the early 1990s and has not been found to this day.
