Harare- A junior Zimbabwe Prisons Correctional Services correctional officer(CO1) is in the eye of a storm following the daring escape of a convicted thief from Harare Central Prison on December 20.

On the run:The escapee identified as Jeffery Jingura is still at large after fleeing prison at a movie- style speed
The officer has been implicated in the escape of Jeffrey Jingura, a ‘B’ class inmate who was serving time for theft.
Jingura worked as a panel beater and spray painter at the prison workshop, escaped with a Toyota Corolla belonging to a senior officer CO3 while allegedly on a private errand. CO1 had taken Jingura and two other inmates to CO3’s residence to fix the vehicle a move now under investigation.
“The officer’s actions have violated procedure and throws shade on security protocols and corruption within the prison system,” said a source close to the investigation.
Jingura is still at large and was supposed to finish his jail term in 2028.
Authorities are urging the public to report any information leading to his recapture. The incident has resulted in an internal probe and police investigation, with CO1 facing disciplinary action.
