DZIVARASEKWA – ZANU PF Harare Provincial chairperson Cde Goodwills Masimirembwa has reaffirmed that a healthy and united labour force remains the bedrock of President Mnangagwa’s vision of an Upper Middle Income Economy by 2030.
Speaking before thousands of people who thronged Dzivarasekwa Stadium on Friday to mark Workers’ Day, Cde Masimirembwa, who was accompanied by ZANU PF Politburo Secretary for Labour Cde Richard Ndlovu, articulated the importance of worker wellness and national cohesion.
“Without a healthy national labour force, we cannot see the path to an upper middle income economy. A sick worker cannot build a prosperous nation,” Cde Masimirembwa said.
He further said that unity among workers transcends political affiliations.
“We must move together as one people. Division on the factory floor or in the fields only slows our march towards the Vision 2030 that President Mnangagwa has set for us,” he said.
In his remarks, Cde Masimirembwa reiterated the ruling party’s commitment to labour welfare.
“I stand here with Cde Richard Ndlovu, our Secretary for Labour, to show that ZANU PF values every worker. Our presence is proof that the President’s vision begins with you the people who lift this nation every single day,” he said.
The event drew a wide cross section of political and labour leaders including acting Minister of Labour and Social Welfare Professor Paul Mavima; ZANU PF Deputy Secretary for Security Cde Tendai Chirau; CCC member Mr Amos Chibaya; MDC-T vice president Paurina Mupariwa; and ZCTU leadership.
Addressing the gathering, ZCTU president Cde Florence Mucha Taruvinga called for constructive engagement between workers and employers.
“We are appealing to Government to monitor the working conditions of employees in different sectors,” she said, while also warning against political meddling in labour unions:
“We are appealing to political parties not to interfere with labour bodies.”
The curtain closed on the rally with a shared commitment from stakeholders to continue dialogue on labour rights, with Cde Masimirembwa and Cde Richard Ndlovu reaffirming the ruling party’s alignment with the President’s vision of a healthy, united and productive workforce driving Zimbabwe towards an Upper Middle Income Economy by 2030.
