Goromonzi- Prospect Lithium Zimbabwe (PLZ) brought together the local community and Chinese nationals in a vibrant Africa Day celebration on Monday, with gastronomy taking centre stage as local women participated in a cookout competition inspired by the First Lady’s national initiative whose finals were held in Mìdlands Province.
The event which was held in Goromonzi, saw Chinese nationals interact with community members as they gathered to celebrate the continent’s rich heritage under the continental theme, “Sports and Culture: Catalysts for Climate Change.”

A highlight of the proceedings was the cookout competition, run under the local theme “Where flavours meet, cultures connect,” which saw local women showcase traditional Zimbabwean cuisine.
The competition mirrors the First Lady’s national cookout initiative, which promotes traditional foods, healthy living and the preservation of cultural heritage.

Traditional leaders, including Chief Mambo Chikwaka graced the occasion alongside District Development Coordinator Ms Prisca Dube, community members and representatives from the mining firm led by Mr Shaoyi.
In his address, Prospect Lithium Zimbabwe reaffirmed the company’s commitment to responsible mining while investing in people, preserving culture and strengthening communities.
“This year’s Africa Day theme speaks directly to the spirit of unity, resilience, innovation and sustainability that defines our continent.
“At Prospect Lithium Zimbabwe, this theme resonates deeply with us as a new energy minerals producer contributing toward a cleaner and more sustainable future,” the company said.
Beyond the culinary displays, an array of traditional games were played to celebrate African culture, fostering interaction between the company’s staff, Chinese nationals and the local community.
Other activities included pot carrying competition and tuf of war which Chief Chikwaka said is a symbol of African strength and harmony.
“The cookout competition perfectly captures the beauty of Africa. Across our continent, food has always been more than nourishment it is identity, history, storytelling, family
and unity.
Around a meal, where strangers became friends and neighbours became family and cultures find common ground,” the company added.

Prospect Lithium Zimbabwe thanked the people of Goromonzi for their continued partnership and hospitality, stating that sustainable development is achieved when companies and communities grow together with mutual respect, trust, and shared purpose.
