Harar – The Amalgamated Rural Teachers Union of Zimbabwe is set to intensify their fight for better working conditions under a campaign dubbed #OperationDignity, which declares an end to what it described as an era of “polite negotiations.”
The union said educators are determined to reclaim their professional status and restore dignity to the teaching profession through organised action.
“Under #OperationDignity, teachers are going to reclaim their status. It is an end to the era of polite negotiations. We will build our power as educators and we will do it in a revolutionary way,” said Robson Nikita Chere.
The remarks come amid growing frustration among educators over low salaries, poor working conditions and concerns over teachers’ welfare, with unions repeatedly calling for improved remuneration and better conditions of service.
The statements signal a potentially tougher stance by ARTUZ as teachers continue to push for reforms in the education sector. The union has in recent years advocated for salary reviews pegged to the cost of living and improved conditions for educators across the country.
The #OperationDignity campaign is expected to rally teachers around collective action aimed at restoring the status and welfare of educators in Zimbabwe.
