Harare – Ten-man MWOS held Caps United to a 2-2 draw in a Castle Lager Premiership clash at Rufaro Stadium on Wednesday afternoon,reports Express Mail Zim.
The match which had looked like was headed for a boring nil all draw, took a sudden twist when MWOS were reduced to 10 men early in the second half.
Caps United took full advantage of their numerical superiority and broke the deadlock in the 73rd minute when Tawanda Benhura connected with an unexpected flick header to put the home side ahead.
The visitors equalised 10 minutes later in the 83rd minute following a defensive lapse on the left flank which allowed Billy Veremu to slot into an empty net following a goalkeeping error.
Coach Takesure Chiragwi introduced Ishmael Wadi and Phineus Bamusi in a bid to change the complexion of the game and push for a winner. Instead, MWOS took the lead in the 89th minute via a thunderous long-range strike from Billy Veremu from about 30 yards out. The goal, an early contender for goal of the season was well struck that even current world best shot stopper(arguably) David Raya of Arsenal could do little to avoid it.
Just as MWOS were on the brink of celebration thinking they would take back to Norton the three points, Caps United showed resilience and salvaged a point deep in injury time when Chamboko powered home a header to level the scores.
The goal salvaged a point for early pacesetters Caps United though they will be disappointed that they couldn’t maximize on their numerical advantage.
Caps United extended their lead on Hardrock to two points as the Kwekwe gold miners were beaten on their on turf 1-0 by a resurgent Highlanders.
Defending champions Scotland FC returned to winning ways after defeating AGAMA 2-1 at Wadzanayi stadium.
