BIRMINGHAM — The Zim Link Up concert was supposed to cure homesickness. Instead, it dished out pure violence.
Thousands of Zimbos flooded Birmingham at the weekend. Music was pumping. Sadza was calling. Deals were flowing. For a few hours, the UK felt like Harare on a Saturday.
Then came the bad apples.
A nasty video now blowing up online shows two Zimbabwean men throwing mbamas like they’re in a township bar. Crowd screaming. Phones recording. Vibes dead.

The beef? A chick.
Word is the two dudes clashed after both tried to “cleaner” the same woman. One shove led to another. Next thing it’s kurovana in front of the whole diaspora.
“This is Zimbophobia, plain and simple,” shouted one angry reveller. “We cross oceans to embarrass the flag?”
“This ain’t right bro, love is lovely and war is ugly. We were supposed to link up and network discussing investment opportunities back home and how to grow our showbizz industry and not to fight,” said Bobby Kay who used to manage the late South African based rapper Navygeta who died in a car crash.
Their behaviour is the opposite of Zimboh that unity and pride we claim to carry. Instead of linking up, they linked fists. Instead of networking, they were networking ma1.!
Organisers are seething. The whole point was to fight homesickness, not each other. Now the world is laughing at us again.
No arrests yet. Birmingham cops are mum. But diaspora WhatsApp groups are on fire: “Takanyadzisa!”
One concert. Two clowns. One viral clip. And Zim Link Up goes from rukudzo to nyadzi in 30 seconds.
