HARARE — The Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) has arrested Bulawayo Deputy Mayor Edwin Ndlovu, Ward 28 Councillor Ntandoyenkosi Ndlovu and former Councillor Rodney Jele on extortion charges involving US$52 000 in respect of lease extension.
Anti-graft authorities confirmed the arrests Sunday and said detailed charges against the trio are expected as further investigations unfold.
Ndlovu is not new to controversy having being previously arrested alongside Finance Committee Chairperson Mpumelelo Moyo over allegations of soliciting a U$20 000 bribe. In that instance, the anti-corruption body alleged that the duo demanded money from a land developer, Labenmon Investments, promising to distribute $1 000 to each of 20 city councillors in exchange for approving a land allocation for a cement plant.
The trio is expected to appear in court as ZACC finalize its initial docket.
