HARARE – President Emmerson Mnangagwa on Friday commissioned the refurbished Adlam House, Student Nurses’ Home at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals, signifying the Second Republic’s commitment to decent healthcare and the welfare of health professionals, Express Mail Zim can report.
The initiative is the brainchild of Prevail Group chief executive and Special Presidential Advisor Dr Paul Tungwarara.
Speaking at the ceremony, President Mnangagwa said government is acting with urgency to address the concerns of healthcare workers following recent industrial action.
“My Government is committed to improving conditions of service and addressing the legitimate concerns of our civil servants,” he said.
“My Government established the Health Services Commission to oversee the training, retention and motivation of our health workforce.”
The President said the refurbishment reflects a well planned strategy to build a resilient health system anchored on skilled personnel and upgraded infrastructure.
“No health system can function without skilled, disciplined and committed professionals. Human capital development remains at the centre of our national socio-economic progress,” he said.
The upgraded accommodation and welfare facilities at Parirenyatwa are intended to create a conducive environment for trainee and practicing healthcare workers.
“The improvements and complete overhaul of the student accommodation and welfare facilities here at Parirenyatwa is a glimpse of the environment which I, as your President, desire for you, our young professionals,” President Mnangagwa said.
The commissioning forms part of the Second Republic’s national health infrastructure modernisation programme aimed at improving patient care, staff welfare and access to specialist services.
