HARARE – Prophetic Healing and Deliverance (PHD) Ministries leader Walter Magaya has been arrested by the specialist police crack team in Harare amid fresh allegations of rape and fraud the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) confirmed in a statement issued by Police General Headquarters Saturday.
Police say Magaya was taken into custody early this morning by a specialist crack team after several new complaints were filed against him.
“Investigations are ongoing and further information will be released in due course,” the ZRP said.
Magaya is one of Zimbabwe’s most controversial church leaders and has faced a string of rape allegations in previous years, most of which did not result in prosecution or conviction.
His perennial brushes with the law have fuelled public debate over how he has consistently evaded full legal accountability despite recurring accusations.
This arrest has put the microscope under the preacher and the justice system’s handling of past cases linked to him.
Observers say Magaya might have fallen in political “wrong basket” hence the reignition of wheels of justice to roll in motion.
