Harare – Zimbabwe Premier Soccer League matches played Sunday turned the title race upside down with two massive upsets.
League leaders Scottland FC suffered only their second defeat of the season, going down 1-0 away to Highlanders at Barbourfields Stadium.
Scottland came into the game with the best record in the league of 14 wins, 7 draws and just 1 loss from 22 games, 37 goals scored and only 6 conceded but Bosso frustrated them and took all three points to move to 37 points from 23 games.
That result cuts Scotland’s lead and gives hope to the chasing pack.
At the same time at Chahwanda Stadium, bottom-placed Triangle United pulled off the shock of the weekend by beating second-placed Hardrock 2-1. Hardrock had been sitting on 42 points from 22 games and had a chance to close right in on Scotland, but instead they dropped points at home.
For Triangle, who started the day on just 11 points from 22 games with only 2 wins all season, the win takes them to 14 points and keeps them in touch with the teams above the relegation zone.
It was a huge result for a side with the league’s worst attack on 13 goals and most losses on 15.
The other big game finished goalless as Dynamos and Simba Bhora played out a 0-0 draw at Rufaro Stadium. That draw leaves Dynamos on 41 points from 23 games, still in third place but unable to take advantage of Hardrock’s slip.
With Scottland on 49 points, Hardrock on 42 and Dynamos on 41, the top of the table is suddenly much closer than it looked 24 hours ago, while Highlanders’ win pushes them into the mix on 37 points. At the bottom, Triangle’s win gives them real belief, even though they remain 18th.
