Kwekwe:Two men from Kwekwe have been sentenced to 8 and 12 months in jail by the Kwekwe Magistrates Court for stealing USD $1,040 from a shop in August this year.
According to a statement issued by the National Prosecuting Authority, Tawanda Murau (34) and Todd Nyamupaguma were each sentenced to 12 and 15 months respectively, with 4 and 3 months suspended for good behavior.
The court heard that on 19 August 2025, the two entered a shop pretending to be customers looking to buy headphones.
Nyamupaguma placed his bag and jacket on the counter to obscure the complainant’s view, while Murau reached behind the counter, stole the money, and handed it to Nyamupaguma.
The shopkeeper noticed the suspicious activity and saw Nyamupaguma fleeing. He immediately checked the counter and discovered the cash was missing.
He quickly apprehended Murau and called the police, leading to his arrest. Nyamupaguma was arrested the following day in Kadoma, but nothing was recovered.
