Mutare- Manica Diamonds president Evence Kamombo has thrown his club’s full support behind the Zimbabwe senior national football team, the Warriors, ahead of their participation in the prestigious Unity Cup 2026 tournament in London.
The Warriors are taking part in the four-nation invitational tournament being staged from May 26-30 at The Valley, home of Charlton Athletic FC in south-east London.
In a statement posted on the club’s social media platforms, Kamombo pledged unwavering support for the national team as they prepare for their semi-final showdown against Nigeria.
“Manica Diamonds FC president Mr Evence Kamombo and the entire Manica Diamonds FC family are rallying behind the Warriors in their match against Nigeria today,” reads the statement.
Zimbabwe will battle defending champions Nigeria in the opening semi-final, while the second semi-final will see India take on Jamaica. The third-place playoff and the grand final are scheduled for May 30.
The Unity Cup marks a historic milestone for Zimbabwean football, as it is the first time the Warriors are participating in a tournament of this magnitude on English soil.
The Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) has described the occasion as a landmark moment that reflects the country’s growing ambitions on the international football stage.
The Warriors squad boasts an impressive blend of Europe-based talent, including captain Marvelous Nakamba, Marshall Munetsi, Jordan Zemura, Tawanda Chirewa, Munashe Garananga and Corbin Mthunzi, local based include Mongameli Thsuma, Junior Makunike, Godknows Murwira among others
ZIFA president Nqobile Magwizi said the tournament reflects Zimbabwe’s determination to compete at a higher international level, while Nakamba described the experience as special, particularly playing in London before thousands of Zimbabweans in the diaspora.
Beyond football, the Unity Cup has been packaged as a celebration of culture, identity and unity within the global diaspora community. Fans attending the final day will also enjoy live entertainment and international cuisine.
Adding further prestige to the competition, the tournament has been granted FIFA Tier 1 status, meaning all matches will count as full international fixtures.
