HARARE- AWARD winning businessman and property guru Tinashe Manzungu has been officially honored by the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) Business Council (CBC) following the conclusion of his six-year tenure on the regional body’s board of directors.
The recognition was delivered during the organization’s Annual General Meeting and its 2027–2030 Strategic Planning Session, marking the end of Manzungu’s three consecutive two-year terms representing Zimbabwe’s private sector.
During his time on the board, Manzungu chaired the Finance, Risk and Audit Committee, overseeing the council’s financial governance, risk management and institutional sustainability.
“I am deeply honoured to have been recognised for my contribution during the COMESA Business Council Annual General Meeting and the 2027–2030 Strategic Planning Session,” Manzungu said, while expressing gratitude to CBC President James Mwanzia, the board and chief executive Teddy Soobramanien for their support.
The CBC operates as the recognized private sector institution for COMESA’s 21 member states, focusing on regional trade, policy advocacy, and economic integration. Manzungu credited the Zimbabwean business community for the opportunity to represent national interests at this regional tier.
“Every achievement during my tenure was inspired by a shared vision of seeing Zimbabwe become a stronger and more influential player in regional trade and economic development,” he stated.
Manzungu confirmed his departure aligns with statutory limits, noting that he chose to step down after completing the maximum permitted terms to allow for institutional renewal.
“Effective leadership creates space for new ideas and new leaders to emerge. It is now time to pass the baton to a new generation,” Manzungu said.
“I have proudly handed over the baton, confident that fresh minds, fresh energy and new perspectives will build on the strong foundation we have established.”
Despite exiting the board, Manzungu indicated he would maintain a relationship with the organization moving forward.
“I will continue to serve as a proud Ambassador of the COMESA Business Council, championing regional integration, trade, investment and stronger partnerships that will unlock opportunities for Zimbabwe and the African continent,” he said.
He dedicated the award to local business stakeholders, adding, “This recognition is not mine alone, it belongs to every Zimbabwean entrepreneur, investor and business leader who entrusted me to represent our nation with integrity and dedication.”
Following his exit from the CBC board, Manzungu has transitioned to the Africa Business Council (ABC), a continental body that interfaces with all Regional Economic Communities. He currently serves as the co-chair of the ABC’s Infrastructure Committee.
