Abuja- A viral video from Abuja shows angry protesters calling for South Africans to leave Nigeria, as tensions spill over from rising xenophobic attacks in South Africa.
The footage captures heated chants and retaliation call but there is no official directive from Nigerian authorities ordering deportations.
The moment shows a dangerous escalation of street anger and it is rising fast, even as governments tread carefully behind the scenes.
Among the crowd, disgruntled Nigerians voiced their fury in no uncertain terms. One protester, clutching a placard, shouted:
“We have tolerated these attacks for too long!
“If they touch our brothers in Johannesburg, we will shut down every South African business here let them feel our pain!”
Another added with clenched fists: “They want to kill us there? Fine! Let every South African in Nigeria pack their bags today. We are not begging for mercy anymore an eye for an eye!”
Authorities have yet to issue an official response, but the growing anger on the streets suggests that patience is wearing thin.
