Harare – CONTROVERSIAL construction firm Gray Homes Construction is embroiled in a fresh scandal after allegedly failing to build a house and refunding US$11 00 to client.
A Harare couple allegedly entered an agreement with the company for a four-roomed house in Waterfalls, reaching the required 70 percent payment threshold of US$10,760.
The firm is owned by a couple Annavesta and Gray Mudiwa and the project failed to break ground by the April 2026 deadline.
While the firm cited “technical difficulties” for the delay, the parties signed a formal Deed of Settlement in which Gray Homes acknowledged the debt and agreed to a phased repayment schedule.
The couple alleges that not a single cent has been paid.
“Gray Homes Construction (Private) Limited has agreed to refund Felicity Chenai Chaendera the total net amount of US$10,760,” the deed reads, detailing a repayment plan set to conclude in September.
Complicating matters, the couple claims they have been unable to locate the company, stating that the address listed on their receipt (44 Longden Avenue, Belvedere) is no longer occupied by the firm.
Gray Homes CEO Annavestah Mudiwa has disputed the allegations, claiming the couple’s account is inaccurate.
“Unfortunately she is not telling the truth,” Mudiwa said.
“Will also send you what we have. The truth from this matter.”
As of press time, Mudiwa had not provided further evidence to refute the documents, which include signed receipts, WhatsApp payment acknowledgments and the Deed of Settlement.
The case has raised concerns regarding accountability within the country’s instalment-based housing sector.
Gray Homes is not new to controversy,it gained national attention when the couple was arrested for allegedly defrauding Miniyothabo Baloyi-Chiwenga, wife of Zimbabwe’s Vice President Constantino Chiwenga, of nearly US$1 Million among other cases .
