Harare – June 5, 2025 — Online publication 263Chat has issued a correction following a factual error in a recently published article that incorrectly identified the individual accused in a US$41,000 solar fraud case.
The article, titled “Mashwede’s Son Implicated in US$41K Solar Fraud Scandal,” mistakenly identified the suspect, Tendai Mashamhanda, as the son of prominent businessman Alex Mashamhanda, the founder of Mashwede Holdings.
However, 263Chat has clarified that the accused is, in fact, the son of Mr. Mashamhanda’s younger brother, and not directly related to Alex Mashamhanda in a paternal capacity.
“The name ‘Tendai’ is common within the Mashamhanda family, which appears to have led to the mix-up in identifying the accused,” the publication noted.
Furthermore, the individual in question is not employed by, nor affiliated with, Mashwede Holdings in any professional role.
263Chat expressed regret over the error, stating, “We sincerely apologize for the inaccuracy and for any inconvenience or reputational damage caused to Mr. Alex Mashamhanda, his son, and Mashwede Holdings.”
The publication has since updated the original article to reflect the correct information.
