Minstrel Taffie has earned international recognition after being named a finalist in the African Contemporary category at the prestigious InterContinental Music Awards for the inspiring gospel song ‘Buruka’.
The announcement marks a significant milestone for the Zimbabwean-born artist, whose ministry continues to touch lives through music rooted in faith, hope, and African heritage.
“I was overwhelmed with gratitude to God,” says Minstrel Taffie. “As an independent Zimbabwean gospel artist based in Australia, this recognition is a reminder that faithfulness, excellence, and authenticity can resonate far beyond borders.”
Raised in the United Methodist Church in Zimbabwe, Minstrel Taffie’s musical journey began with hymns and congregational worship. Today, while serving professionally as a registered nurse in Australia, the artist continues to answer God’s call through music.
The nominated song, ‘Buruka’ is a heartfelt prayer inviting the Holy Spirit to move powerfully in people’s lives during seasons of uncertainty and hardship. Blending Shona lyrics, African rhythms, and a timeless Gospel message, the song reflects both Zimbabwe’s rich cultural heritage and a universal message of hope.
Balancing a demanding healthcare career with writing, recording, and promoting music has not been without challenges. Yet every obstacle has strengthened the artist’s faith and commitment to excellence.
Beyond personal achievement, this international recognition shines a spotlight on Zimbabwean Gospel music, demonstrating that African voices and stories have an important place on the global stage.
Looking ahead, Minstrel Taffie hopes to expand the ministry through international collaborations, performances, and new music while inspiring emerging African artists to remain authentic and faithful to their calling.
