PRETORIA – President Cyril Ramaphosa has on Thursday removed Sisisi Tolashe from her position as Minister of Social Development, effective immediately.
In a statement issued by the Presidency on May 14, Ramaphosa said the decision was made in terms of section 91(2) of the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa, 1996.
The President has appointed Minister in the Presidency for Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities, Sindisiwe Chikunga, to act in the portfolio pending a permanent appointment.
“President Ramaphosa has in terms of section 91(2) of the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa, 1996, removed Minister Sisisi Tolashe from the position of Minister of Social Development,” the statement partly read.
“In the interim, President Ramaphosa has appointed Minister in the Presidency for Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities Sindisiwe Chikunga as the acting minister in the portfolio pending a full-time appointment in due course.”
No reasons were provided for the dismissal in the statement.
