Harare – President Emmerson Mnangagwa marked Workers’ Day with a firm message to employers condemning the persistent use of short-term contracts for permanent roles while pledging government action to secure fair pay and dignified conditions for Zimbabwe’s workforce.
In his address, the President described workers across all sector including informal traders, farmers, miners, teachers and health professionals as the backbone of the nation’s progress toward Vision 2030.
He stressed that continuous work deserves secure employment and called for an end to labour practices that disguise exploitation as flexibility.
Mnangagwa urged employers to uphold the country’s labour laws without exception and highlighted recent macroeconomic gains such as stable inflation and foreign currency as essential to protecting workers’ real earnings.
He also acknowledged ongoing external economic pressures but reaffirmed the government’s commitment to pursuing fair wage solutions through social dialogue.
Mnangagwa paid special tribute to health workers, teachers and informal sector labourers and said formalising and respecting all forms of work is a matter of social justice.
He rallied the nation to continue building the country together, brick by brick, while ensuring no worker is left behind.
