Harare- INTERIM Warriors coach Kaitano Tembo is in a bullish mood soon after his appointment, Express Mail Zim can report.
Named to the post this week, Tembo said continuity within the technical team will be critical as Zimbabwe gears up for their historic first match on British soil.
Tembo previously served as assistant under Marian Marinica and Michael Nees. He said that experience would help the Warriors transition smoothly ahead of the tournament.
“I am honoured to lead the national team. We have continuity in the technical department and that will help us hit the ground running,” Tembo said.
He will be assisted by Takesure Chiragwi. Tembo said their strong understanding would be key to getting the squad ready for the challenge ahead.
Zimbabwe face Nigeria in the Unity Cup semi-final. Tembo promised organisation, discipline and belief against one of Africa’s strongest sides.
“We know Nigeria’s quality, but we are going there to compete. The boys must be organised, disciplined and believe in themselves,” he said.
The Unity Cup marks the Warriors’ first ever fixture in the United Kingdom. Tembo urged Zimbabweans living in the UK to turn out in numbers and back the team.
“This is a special moment for our football. We call on all Zimbabweans in the UK to come and rally behind the Warriors,” he said.
The Zimbabwe Football Association said Tembo’s appointment ensures stability as the nation builds towards upcoming AFCON and World Cup qualifiers.
