Harare:Five suspects have appeared before Mbare Magistrates’ Court facing serious charges of dealing in dangerous drugs and possession of restricted medicines after detectives from the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Drugs Harare intercepted a major consignment in the early hours on the 23rd of August 2025.
According to court proceedings, police detectives while acting on a tip-off intercepted a 10-tonne truck in Kuwadzana Extension, Harare, at around 1:00 AM.
The detectives thoroughly searched the truck leading to the recovery of 20 sacks of dagga weighing approximately 306 kilograms, along with 49 boxes of Broncleer cough syrup, a restricted substance often abused as a recreational drug. Each box contained 50 bottles of 100ml.
Four of the suspects who were in the truck at the time were arrested on the spot. During interrogation, the quartet reportedly implicated a fifth individual, who was subsequently apprehended in a sting operation along Robson Manyika Road after allegedly receiving part of the illicit consignment.
The accused have been identified as Paradzai Kamungeremu (43), Givemore Tsavayo (38), and Tafadzwa Mapika (20), all of Kuwadzana Extension in Harare; Nkosikhona Moyo (35) of Nketa 7, Bulawayo and Faith Matekede (37) of Southview Park Harare.
The State is opposing bail for all five arguing that the gravity of the charges, the potential harm to the public and the likelihood that the suspects may flee or interfere with investigations make them unsuitable candidates for release at this stage.
The case has been remanded to allow for further investigations to be carried out.
