United Kingdom– UK-based Zimbabwean entrepreneur and sociologist, Trudy Daliel Mutena is fast rising as a formidable force in the entertainment space,following the resounding success of her brainchild the UK Doek Festival.
The inaugural edition of the vibrant women-centered event was held on July 13 2024 attracting nearly 200 attendees.
The momentum has only grown with 600 guests gracing the 2025 edition held on June 28.
Trudy has already set the date for the third edition for July 4 2026.

Speaking to Express Mail Zim from her UK base, Trudy described her journey into entertainment as an unexpected twist of fate.
“Showbiz found me , I didn’t go looking for it. I had never done anything like this before but entrepreneurship is in my blood,” she said.
Inspired by the glamour and unity of Zimbabwean women featured in Zim version of the Doek and Slay Facebook photos, Trudy saw a social gap in the UK’s diaspora community and filled it with colour, energy, and culture.
> “Living in the diaspora with limited social life, I woke up one day and thought, ‘Let’s spice it up for the ladies.’ That’s how Doek Fest was born under Trudiel Entertainment,” she explained.
Her idea was not without research. She explored similar Doek-themed events in South Africa dating back to 2019 and used those insights to build her unique brand.
A proud mother of 19-year-old Nyasha, whom she calls “intelligent,” Trudy holds multiple qualifications including a MSc in Social Work, BA Honours in Sociology and certifications in counselling and health care.
Born and raised in Mbare, Harare to Malawian parents Norman and Dolia, Trudy is now orphaned but remains rooted in her identity. She shares her journey with two brothers, Eric and Jeremiah.
She attended Harare High School before completing her education at Girls High School.
Though tight-lipped about her full vision, she emphasizes her commitment to creating safe spaces and uplifting women in a male-dominated industry.
“I can’t share much on my vision , I like surprises. But my goal is to advocate for the girl child and break barriers in an industry that’s 95% male,” she said.
With her seemingly unstoppable drive, Trudy Mutena is not just organizing events, she is exporting empowerment.
Her star continues to rise and the world is watching!
